I MADE A BUNCH OF COOKIES
My roommates and I are moving to a new apartment at the end of this month, and my method for emptying our shelves was to bake as many cookies as I could using what we had and giving most of them away to friends etc. The end result:
- about 30 dozen cookies of 5 varieties baked, nearly emptying our shelves of flour, sugar, peanut butter, and odds and ends spices
- most of our cheap plastic containers were given away, and therefore don’t need to be packed
- everyone is happy forever
Here’s some recipes, so you can make your own at home!
OATMEAL RAISIN

Some of the best freaking cookies I’ve ever had. Cherubs will descend from the heavens and blow trumpets while you eat them. Best when served fresh out of the oven with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, for face-melting deliciocity. I got my recipe out of the Better Homes and Gardens Cookbook; there’s a corresponding recipe to be found here: http://www.bhg.com/recipe/desserts/oatmeal-cookies/
The real secret? Put the raisins in a small pot, fill it with water until just covering the raisins, bring to a boil, then turn off heat and set to the side, until mixed into the dough. It softens the raisins AND keeps the cookies soft for a longer time.
DOUBLE PEANUT BUTTER

Peanut butter isn’t really my thing, but these were pretty good. Great alone, better dunked in milk. Again, the recipe came from Better Homes and Gardens, found here: http://www.bhg.com/recipe/cookies/peanut-butter-cookies/ Add 3/4 cup Reese’s Pieces or Peanut Butter M&Ms after mixing in the flour, drop on cookie sheets by the spoonful and don’t flatten.
CHOCOLATE CHIP

Everyone loves chocolate chip cookies. If you don’t, you’re probably a robot and we should hang out sometime. The recipe is mostly simple and straightforward. http://www.bhg.com/recipe/desserts/essential-chocolate-chip-cookies/
SNICKERDOODLES

First time making snickerdoodles and it was a triumph. Straight-up, chewy deliciousness. I had no clue what Cream of Tartar was before I made these; it tastes like powdered armpit. But the cookies were good. http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/mrs-siggs-snickerdoodles/detail.aspx
NUTELLA PINWHEELS

FAN-FREAKING-TASTIC. My heart jumped out of my chest and danced a merry jig on my ribcage. I saw the recipe posted on http://gingerhaze.tumblr.com/ and had to use it. The recipe can be found at http://purplefoodie.com/nutella-pinwheel-cookies/. You mouth will love you forever.
And that is the story of how I spent the last three or four days in a cookie-induced food coma.
